Check out this wonderful short break to Kiruna, inside the Arctic circle. Highlights include 3 nights' accommodation at the Máttaráhkká Northern Lights Sami Lodge, snowmobiling, dog sledding.
Included in our Northern Lights Special:
The following itinerary is an example - itinerary may be adapted to facilitate smaller groups.
Fly to Kiruna in Swedish Lapland where you will be met by a guide and transferred to the exclusive Máttaráhkká Northern Lights Lodge. On arrival, lunch will be waiting for you after which you will be kitted out with our excellent quality Arctic Clothing, for your use during the whole of your stay.
You have the rest of the afternoon to try your hand at cross country skiing or take a walk in the scenic countryside around the lodge.
This evening have dinner at the lodge. The Northern Lights might well put in their first appearance after dinner!
If you want to experience something that extra bit special, why not book a private hot tub session at the lodge. Located on the roof this hot tub affords a wonderful panoramic view to the Abisko Alps, often lit up by the aurora. Please see our Optional Extras below.
Meals included: Lunch and Dinner
After breakfast simply walk out your front door and your snowmobiles & guide await to take you on a terrific adventure in the arctic wilderness around the lodge.
After your briefing set off following private trails into the wilderness. The scenery ranges from forest to frozen lakes, where the chances of seeing reindeer and moose in their natural habitat are high. From your vantage point near Mount Eatnamvárri gaze out over fantastic scenery - Miles and miles of untouched wilderness.
After lunch back at the lodge, transfer to the original IceHotel celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2015. Tour the individually designed art suites, wonder at the ice sculptures or perhaps enjoy a drink served in an ice glass in the Ice Bar.
This evening, enjoy an outdoor BBQ dinner at the lodge prior to venturing out on the aurora chase. This will mostly result in a trip to Abisko for the evening as this is one of the best viewing locations on earth for consistent sightings.
Note: If you would like to visit the Aurora Sky Station in Abisko and enjoy the excellent dinner served in the observatory then that is an option (see below) instead of doing the aurora chase above
Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
After breakfast you will be picked up from the Lodge and transferred to the kennels for what is for many a real highlight of a trip to the Arctic - driving your own sled dog team. With one Husky team between 2 people you can take turns driving over frozen lakes and through woods enjoying the beautiful snowy landscapes around you. Stop for a wilderness lunch in a Sami Tepee.
This evening Hakan, your Sami guide, will take you onto his land in Rautas. Learn about Sami life and see the Reindeer coral before taking an outing into the wilderness on a Snowmobile Sled.
Journey through the dark forest and glide over the frozen river in pursuit of the aurora borealis. Rautas is excellently sighted for viewing any northern lights activity over Abisko. At the end gather around the fire in the Sami Tepee to enjoy hot drinks and soup dinner. Hakan will give you great insight into the life of the Sami and their northern lights myths and legends.
Late evening drop back at the Lodge.
