Fly to Kiruna in Swedish Lapland where on arrival you will be met by one of the guides and transferred to the ICEHOTEL for check into your cabin. At the same time you will be kitted out with your arctic clothing.

Evening at leisure. We will make a restaurant reservation for you in one of the Ice Hotel's 2 restaurants.

Meals included: None

DAY 2: WEDNESDAY - Husky Wilderness Safari. Overnight in Art Suite at Original ICEHOTEL

After breakfast you will be picked up from the ICEHOTEL for what is for many the favourite day of a trip to Lapland - driving your own sled dog team. Transfer to the kennel located in a remote river valley where moose congregate in winter.

Ylva Sievertsson is an accomplished musher, whose kennel is in a remote valley from where she runs very personal sled dog trips. As you will discover she has a very special relationship with her dogs and it is a thrill to visit her kennel.

Once you arrive at the kennels get acquainted with the dogs and receive detailed instructions about how to drive them. Head out into the frozen river valley where you will have opportunities to take turns in driving the team whilst making stops to take photos. The location is outside the major tourist areas and we can almost promise that you will enjoy pristine arctic nature alone.

You will be out for around 2 hours before heading back to base for a warming lunch in the traditional ‘Kota’ adjacent to the family home.

To make it more exclusive we only take a maximum of 4 sled dog teams at a time.

Late afternoon take the residents tour of the ICEHOTEL, where you will be advised on how to make the most of your stay in one of the amazing art suites.

Tonight stay in an art suite designed and built by an international ice artist. Sleep in a thermal sleeping bag on a special bed of snow and ice, on reindeer skins.

All of our northern lights holidays are in the aurora belt so always scan the skies for flickers of the mystical green lights!

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 3: THURSDAY - Day Snowmobile Tour with IceFishing. Overnight at Máttaráhkká Northern Lights Lodge

After Breakfast check out and pick up by a guide who will take you out for a very special day in the wilderness. The Lodge is situated near trails that take you into pristine wilderness and your adventure begins with taking snowmobiles out along these trails. Follow Frozen river valleys and ride up the Fells to the guide’s secret lake where Arctic Char abound. Put your Reindeer skins on the ice, drill a hole and see what you can catch. We have been known to catch 3-4kg Char up here!

Part of the beauty is purely being away from anything and feeling like you own this wilderness for a moment in time. The guide will also have snow shoes with him so that you can try your hand.

Lunch is taken in the wild and will be cooked on a fire in the great outdoors.

Venture back to the lodge – if you have caught a good fish then the team will cook it for your for dinner!

After the experience drive straight back to Máttaráhkká Northern Lights Lodge your base for the next 3 nights. This small lodge ( 7 rooms) is a wonderful home away from home escape on an elevated location on the road to Abisko. Besides the warm hospitality the northern lights from the lodge are excellent with the backdrop of the Abisko alps providing an endless Vista.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

DAY 4: FRIDAY - Sami Introduction day with Nils Håkan Enoksson

After breakfast at the lodge transfer to the Sámi village of Rávttas, 20 minutes west of the lodge to meet with Nils Håkan Enoksson. Nils Håkan can trace back his family roots several hundred years and has interesting insights into how life has changed in this period.

This experience will give you a glimpse of the traditional lifestyle of the Sámi people and affords the opportunity to get up close with Lapland's most iconic creature – the reindeer.

During the visit you will have an opportunity to feed the reindeer and absorb the magical relationship between the Sámi and their most prized resource. Your visit includes a ride on a traditional Reindeer powered sled, the means by which the Sami people traversed the arctic for centuries.

To end the encounter Hakan will invite you into his traditional Sámi lavvu (teepee) where you will be served a fresh and delicious meal around an open fire.

This glimpse into traditional Sámi life will certainly be a highlight of your break to Lapland.

Drop back at the lodge. Dinner, Relaxation and Aurora Hunting. If you would like we can book the rooftop aurora hot tub at the lodge and sauna for a private session. See optional extras below

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

DAY 5 SATURDAY - Day Snowmobile Adventure on Private Wilderness Trails. Northern Lights BBQ and Photography at the lodge

After breakfast simply walk out the front door of the lodge where your snowmobiles await to take you on a terrific adventure in the arctic wilderness.

After your briefing set off following your own private trail into the wilderness. The scenery ranges from forest to frozen lakes, where there are chances of seeing reindeer, moose and ptarmigans (grouse) in their natural habitat. From your vantage point near Mount Eatnamvárri gaze out over fantastic scenery - miles and miles of untouched wilderness.

Return to the lodge for lunch and an afternoon at leisure. There are snow shoes if you wish to try them out or alternatively sit by the log fire and relax!

This evening your northern lights holiday continues as you enjoy a BBQ on the aurora deck outside the lodge looking towards Abisko. The position of the lodge provides great views to the horizon and is a great place for witnessing the Northern Lights.

The guides will be tracking local aurora activity and have cameras pre-set for capturing the northern lights. Just make sure you have a CD card available to insert in a camera.

Hot drinks will be provided but your mission is to try and capture the Northern Lights on 'film'!

Accommodation

Máttaráhkká Northern Lights Sami Lodge

We are pleased to offer this small intimate lodge for use by our clients.

As the lodge is away from town the skies are darker and, being situated on a slight elevation, the views out across the Arctic tundra to the Abisko Alps are expansive.

The lodge used to be a Sami handicraft centre until the owners had the idea to turn it into an exclusive retreat. With only 7 bedrooms, open plan lounge and dining room the emphasis is on relaxing in a cosy environment. The rooms have a loft bedroom whilst downstairs is a living room and en suite bathroom.

The lodge has a fabulous sauna and a very unusual 'northern lights hot tub' on the roof where you can star gaze or hunt for the Aurora.

Another benefit of a stay here is that for husky and snowmobile adventures we cut out the transfer time - they are both on your doorstep!

Evenings are focused on good food, relaxation and the Northern Lights so if you are looking for a 'home away from home' experience then look no further.

ICEHOTEL

The Ice Hotel in Swedish Lapland ranks as one of the most unusual places to stay.

2014/15 saw IceHotel celebrate its 25th edition, and each year the IceHotel is unique.

As the temperature in Jukkasjärvi drops below zero Ice Artists descend from all over the world to build the hotel. Using only frozen water from the, neighbouring, Torne River, their art is created with imagination, only to melt away under the unforgiving rays of the sun come springtime. All that remains are your impressions, memories and photographs.

Ice Hotel Art Suite

To sleep in an Art Suite is a unique experience.  Your individually carved room includes a bed of ice, wood, a mattress and some wonderfully soft (and warm) Reindeer skins.  Onto this add your Arctic sleeping bag to aid you in keeping warm overnight.

Your luggage in stored in an adjacent service block where there are saunas and showers, whilst all you will take into your Art Suite is your thermal Arctic sleeping bag!

Wake up to hot Lingonberry juice served in your room prior to the very substantial IceHotel breakfast buffet, swerved in the main restaurant.

The Ice Hotel has 2 restaurants, one serving gourmet food, whilst the more informal Homestead restaurant serves hearty traditional food

Ice Hotel Warm Chalet Accommodation

Spacious and modern and perfect after a night in the ICEHOTEL.

Having spent a night in the IceHotel you deserve to get back into warm accommodation! The IceHotel has a range of warm accommodation ranging from chalets to hotel rooms.

The Chalets at the Ice Hotel are well appointed with 2 rooms (one with double and one with bunk beds). They can sleep up to 4 people so are perfect for families travelling together. Each chalet has a central lounge with bathroom off to one side.

The Kamoos rooms are more a-kin to hotel rooms at a 4 star level. Better appointed and with a full en-suite bathroom they are good alternative to the chalets. Subject to availability. A surcharge for Kamoos rooms will apply.
