Best of Morocco Long Weekend

Souks, Mountains and Desert

March to December

This is a great combination break offering the hustle and excitement of Marrakech with luxury and remoteness of Dar Ahlam in the desert and the majesty of the Atlas Mountains at Kasbah Tamadot.

Celebrate in style - or just enjoy an incredible long weekend...

Famed for the bustling activities of its shopkeepers and the skill of its craftsmen, Marrakech is renowned for its wonderful climate and for its remarkable and varied setting. Palm groves, rose gardens, the snow capped Atlas Mountains and the nearby desert all contrive to make this one of the world’s most evocative locations, and certainly a destination that should be on every traveller's 'bucket list'!

To sit and watch the kaleidoscope that is Jemaa El Fna, with its fortune tellers; story tellers; tooth pullers; herbalists; snake charmers; acrobats; musicians and dancers, is to participate in something very special indeed.

Be prepared to negotiate like a Berber when you pick up a bargain in the Medina, dine on one of the world’s great cuisine’s or simply indulge in the pleasures of your Riad – your senses will be brought to life!

The nearby High Atlas mountains have peaks over 4,000m offering stunning views and a huge range of opportunities for trekking that vary in ability level from ambling to serious hiking.

The road to Ouarzazate passes directly through the spectacular valley of Kasbahs where hundreds of citadels line the valley of Dades, giving you a glimpse into the rugged desert culture.

La Maison Arabe

Frommer's guide labels La Maison Arabe as 'The epitome of Moroccan elegance' and we would whole heartedly endorse this.

A fantastic Riad, with just 26 luxurious rooms and suites, it is filled with rich, sumptuous fabrics, ornately hand carved furnishings and traditional Moroccan finishes. Situated only 15 minutes from Jmaa el Fna square, the heart beat of Marrakech, it has roof terraces with amazing views over the Medina, refreshing swimming pools, beautiful courtyards and salons, wonderful restaurants, impeccable staff & delightful Hammam and spa.

Riads come and go all the time in Marrakech but there are a handful that have maintained their standards for well over 50 years!

Dar Ahlam

Dar Ahlam is a traditional Kasbah nestling in the palm groves at the gateway to the Southern Moroccan Desert. A Relais and Chateaux property, Dar Ahlam combines elegance and luxury with authenticity.

The 1.5 hectares of gardens are laden with date palms, olive trees, aromatic herbs and wonderful spaces for private meals.

The Kasbah has 8 spacious suites, each individually decorated with unusual antiques and silk drapes. There are also 3 villas with private swimming pools.

The views over the desert and the Atlas Mountains in the distance are dramatic. This is a unique haven with first class service and food.

Kasbah Tamadot

Kasbah Tamadot is a magical walled building located near the village of Asni in Morocco's High Atlas region, a mere 45 minutes drive from the centre of Marrakech.

Within its protective walls guests will find an intriguing and extensive complex. Bought by Richard Branson in 1998 it has been continually improved on.

Kasbah Tamadot has 27 bedrooms and suites including nine luxury Berber Tents, some of which have private plunge pools. All are individually decorated using traditional Moroccan furnishings and antiques, as well as items from the vast collection of Luciano Tempo, Kasbah Tamadot's former owner. Each room has a uniquely descriptive Berber name which tells you something about it.

With its intimate fireside bar and breathtaking terrace views, the stunning Kanoun Restaurant serves delicious local and international cuisine. The food combines local and international flavours, with home grown herbs and vegetables from the Kasbah Tamadot gardens. Dine al fresco around the candle lit reflecting pool, up on the rooftop terrace underneath the stars or somewhere private just for two!
