The Lodge in Sorbyn looks out over a frozen lake surrounded by pine forests. A small 7 bedroom lodge and a few lakeside cabins comprise this small hotel. The real gem is the restaurant.
Chef Rickard Karlsson has worked in many of Sweden's finest restaurants and serves up a fayre that acts as a magnet.
All rooms are en-suite and combine simple Nordic touches. They are themed to reflect the seasons found in Lapland.
The main building houses a restaurant, lounge area and bar. The fireplace creates an atmosphere in which you can unwind and feel at one with the scenery around you.
The Aurora Camp is the brain child of Fredrik Browman and was inspired by the camps he has visited in Africa. This is glamping Arctic Style and in a beautiful corner of Swedish Lapland.
The 5 Sami Lavvu rooms and the Lavvu Lounge are set in pristine woodland overlooking a frozen river system. With log burners in each, they are snug but also simplistic. The toilet is a short walk away.
There is no carbon footprint as all energy is created by solar panels or biofuel and, what is more, Fredrik has taken the concept of working in partnership with the local community, learned in Africa, and applied this to his operation of the camp. The local community benefits from the development of tourism.
There is an open roaring fireplace where cooking is done and a dining Lavvu tent, which is beautifully attired and forms a central point for meals at night.
If you are looking for authenticity and back to nature simplicity then this is a must. There are a number of excellent activities available in the area including snow shoe walks, husky sled dog driving and snowmobiling. As part of a longer journey through Lapland this is adds greatly to the experience
