A 'fly-drive' experience, you'll fly into Cape Town, enjoy a short break and take in the sights and sounds of this vibrant city before you head out, by internal transfer flight, to George where you will pick up your hire car.
From George you have a short drive along the coast to Plettenberg, where you can relax and enjoy the Robberg Peninsula Nature Reserve, take in water safaris, dive charters and ocean kayaking tours.
Plettenberg to Pumba Water Lodge is your longest drive at around 340Km (3.5-4 hours) although you will have plenty of time to enjoy the views and grab some lunch.
The Pumba Water Lodge is your opportunity to see the 'Big 5' with a range of game drives, bush walks, bird watching, a night drive for star gazing and more.
The old and established suburbs of Gardens, Oranjezicht and Tamboerskloof merge into each other as they line the foothills of Table Mountain and Signal Hill. The area enjoys convenient proximity to the city, the Table mountain Cableway, as well as the beaches. The narrow little streets are lined by original Cape buildings, many of which have been beautifully restored, some now housing museums and art galleries, as well as lively sidewalk cafés and highly acclaimed restaurants.
Now known for its trendy and modern vibe, this region is often visited on foot, encompassing the historic Parliament Buildings, the Company Gardens and the cafés, culture and boutiques of Kloof Street.
Known as the jewel of the Garden Route, Plettenberg Bay is a tranquil and charming town characterised by its beautiful beaches, the dramatic Robberg Peninsula, lagoons and estuaries, indigenous forests and unpolluted rivers.
From Keurboomstrand in the north to the Robberg Peninsula there are 15 kilometres of beaches interrupted only by the Keurbooms River mouth. Central Beach is the busiest beach in Plettenberg Bay and it is the launch site for Marine Safaris, dive charters and ocean kayaking tours. There are many restaurants, bars and facilities in the vicinity of the town.
Keurbooms Beach is 10Km from Plettenberg Bay and is almost 'wild' in its unspoilt beauty.
Robberg Beach is ideal for very long walks, it stretches for kilometres between the Robberg Peninsula and Beacon Island and offers the best shore-based whale watching in the area.
The Robberg Peninsula itself is a nature reserve and national monument 8Km south of Plettenberg Bay. Visitors to the region stay a while to explore a choice of three circular routes around the point of the peninsula. Hikers enjoy 4 hours of diverse ecology coupled with excellent bird watching.
The landscape of the Eastern Cape is distinctive and instantly recognisable with undulating hills punctuated by tall aloes, euphorbia and bushy cape scrub, as well as brightly coloured traditional Xhosa houses.
Highly successful conservation efforts in re-establishing the game that originally populated this area, have seen large tracts of land surrounding the Addo Elephant National Park, converted to private game reserves, resulting in strong numbers of lion, elephant and rhino - including the rare Black Rhino which thrives on the nutrient rich spekboom of the area. Cheetah, leopard and Cape buffalo are also frequently spotted. As a destination for a Big 5 Safari it's hard to think of anywhere better.
The lodges of this malaria free Eastern Cape area are exceptionally child friendly.
