Tucked away in the north eastern corner of Chobe National Park is Camp Linyanti. Remote, unspoilt, with the waterways and lagoons of the Linyanti floodplains before it, and riverine forests with huge trees surrounding it, Camp Linyanti is an undiscovered gem.
Camp Linyanti is a 90 minute game drive from Saile airstrip located in the Chobe National park. Fed by the flooded Chobe and Kwando rivers, the vast floodplains of Linyanti stretch out to Namibia’s Caprivi Strip, and create a wetland oasis in an otherwise parched landscape.
In addition to the thrill of getting up close and personal to big game, guests will also be able to experience exceptional bird sightings in this area of the National Park.
Camp Linyanti is small and intimate – five elevated, en-suite rondavel tents with outdoor showers accommodate just ten guests in this simple and charming camp overlooking a vast lagoon.
Twice daily game drives through the forest and along the waterways yield a marvelous array and variety of wildlife, with traditionally dry-land and wet-land species vying with one another. Hippos snort in the lagoon, while Brown Hyena prowl the forest and with excellent opportunities to see Sable and Roan antelope.
The game-viewing vehicles are open to facilitate game-watching and photography, and your guide will delight in showing you the beauty and diversity of Linyanti’s natural wonders.
Camp Linyanti now also has a 6m Swamp Cruiser. This impressive boat, fully kitted out for guests’ comfort, has two engines – a powerful 4-stroke outboard motor, and a quiet electric motor for moving silently through the fringes of the Linyanti lagoon and waterways, viewing birds and wildlife.
Experience a traditional Okavango safari with your own private guide and enjoy luxurious accommodation in natural and open surroundings. Each room is different in design and décor, adapted to fit around the ancient trees of the island forest, open to the spectacular natural environment, and positioned to capture the best views of the landscape.
Fresh vegetables, imported cheeses, excellent meats and fine wines flown in daily and lovingly prepared, maintain the camp's enviable reputation for cuisine.
Accommodation is for a maximum of 16 guests in spacious lethaka (reed) chalets with en-suite bathrooms. Built of natural materials and elevated off the forest floor, each chalet has hot and cold running water, a shower with a view and solar-powered electric lighting.
Each room is different in design and décor, adapted to fit around the ancient trees of the island forest, open to the spectacular natural environment, and positioned to capture the best views of the landscape.
Delta Camp’s guests enjoy the luxury of their own private guide. Our guides are locals - this is a man of the swamp, born and raised in the area, and you will spend your days in his mokoro (pl. mekoro), gliding through the floodplains and channels, and walking under his guidance on some of the many islands in the area, taking in the magnificent scenery and light as well as the abundant game and bird-life of the Okavango.
Set on 15,000 hectares of private reserve, bordering the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Deception Valley Lodge is the premier Kalahari destination in Botswana.
Professionally run by the owners, the lodge offers all the facilities that ensure a comfortable and relaxing stay. With a stunning location overlooking the waterhole, each of the 8 very spacious suites has a bedroom, separate lounge area, en-suite bathroom with Victorian bath and outdoor shower. The lodge boasts a swimming pool, several indoor and outdoor areas in which to relax and dine and, in a nod to the remoteness of the location, wireless internet delivered by satellite.
With its own airstrip a short 15 minute drive from the lodge, Deception Valley Lodge is a mere 30 minutes by air from Maun.
Activities are varied. The Reserve’s extensive network of tracks make for perfect day and night driving terrain. The Kalahari sand offers excellent opportunities for tracking lion and leopard and where your guide can follow off road as this is a private game reserve.
A visit to Deception Valley Lodge would not be complete without experiencing a walk with the San (Bushmen). ‘Braam’ Badenhorst, one of the owners, grew up in the Kalahari with the San and several of his friends live on the reserve and are available to show guests the way they used to live and survive. Walk through a terrain that appears to the uninitiated to offer little in the way of sustenance, but is a treasure-trove of fruits, berries, tubers, barks, herbs and flowers used in cooking, medicine, ceremonies and for a plethora of other purposes. All this before we turn to the mammals, birds, reptiles and insects that form part of the fascinating panoply of their desert world.
